This blog follows the development of my pre-fabulous LV Home in Pacifica, CA, known as The Minnie House, in honor and memory of my mum, Mina (and sometimes Minnie) Rapport, who passed away on June 28, 2008.
The whole place is very nice! Added up your budget notes....was it really $620,276? Modular concept gone wild? I thought her design intent is to allow broader public access to those who appreciated green design.....but didn't have the big bucks? You must have had a lot of "add-ons".
Thanks, Don. Can't wait to sit in the garden and drink tea with you.
Anon - building a house is expensive. Building a house on a hillside in Northern California is ridiculously expensive. Prefab doesn't make it any less so. And it's not a modular house. Even if it was, it would still be as expensive. Building on flat land, without a basement, in a non-earthquake state, where labor and land is still relatively cheap, would obviously save a fortune. But it still wouldn't be 'affordable'. And no, there are really no 'add-ons.'
I've just finished a Rocio romero home in the northeast, no basement, non-earthqake zone, the cost is almost the same. This house is not the cost effective alternative that Rocio would like everyone to believe. Be sure that your budget is realistic before you sign up.
